What is Nonghet, you may ask? For Yakao Yang, he describes it as a Regime, not a town. Nonghet is a region where numerous villages were scattered all over, where many of the Hmong ancestors from all over the world originated. This book goes in-depth about the stories of two legendary Yang Clan heroes of Nonghet, my father’s great-grandmother, Mrs. Yonghoua Yang, and also his father Mr. Vangkay Yang. 

My great-great-grandmother escaped the sudden attack of the Chinese warlord’s army with her two young sons Tou and Lue. She took her sons and migrated to the deep south to cross to Nonghet. It was there that they settled with other escapees in the immense jungle. Her bravery to save and raise her two sons resulted in generations of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many more generations to follow. I, along with my family, am proud to remember her as a great heroine.
